On Saturday May 30th, 2009 a
wonderful new section of the San Antonio Riverwalk opened to the public.
After over a decade of planning and construction, the new Museum Reach
section was unveiled to the public. This new section of the
Riverwalk adds 1.3 more miles to the most popular attraction in the
state of Texas. Starting roughly at the Holiday Inn El Tropicano
Riverwalk Hotel, the Museum Reach portion of the Riverwalk features
beautiful landscaped grounds, wonderful walking paths and some wonderful
displays of public art. River barges now cruising the river now
pass through a lock and dam system as they make their way up river
turning around at the Pearl Brewery Complex.
If you would like to ride
the new Museum Reach section of the Riverwalk, simply look for a barge
with large red and black checkered flag on the back. They are the
river taxi boats that operate in that area. Get the drivers
attention and he or she will pull over to the side and pick you and your
party up. The cost of the ride is $10 per person and is valid for
unlimited rides for the next 24 hours. Parking for the Museum
Reach section can be found on the streets around the Holiday Inn El
Tropicano Hotel, in and around the Riverwalk VFW Post 76 and at the
Pearl Brewery site.
